Out with the Old

Somehow I have convinced my darling husband that instead of getting me a new purse for Mother's Day, we should get something that we really need for the house.

These are some of the ideas we toyed around with-

a new mirrored nightstand

new countertops
we want to do butcher block on the stove section, and carrera or calcutta gold marble on the sink section

new kitchen flooring

Can you guess what we chose?

We're still in the deciding stages, so we are doing our research, and trying to find the best deal on...

NEW KITCHEN FLOORS!

We figured this would give us the most bang for our buck right now, the current floors are TERRIBLE! Everything shows on them. I have to vacuum and mop them at least 4 times a week to keep them looking clean, and even then they have nicks and scratches, not to mention the most eighties looking maroon rose pattern, that drives me INSANE!
The photo above shows some of the samples we brought home from the flooring store. I can't wait to get them in!

We still haven't decided if we're going to get hardwood, laminate hardwood or cork. Have any of you used these in your kitchens? What have you learned, and what do you think would look and work the best?

  1. Oh I get it you're young and in love....let me give you some advice. Don't start that get the purse. learn from my mistake! You have plenty of years ahead of you to get things for house:) Happy Mother's Day my friend. I vote for hardwood it's the best in my opinion.

    1. Thanks for the hardwood vote! That was my original choice, but we'll see how things go as far as budget. I'm hoping lumber liquidators will come through. Anyway, I would SO rather have a new floor than a purse. I say there's plenty of years ahead for purses. no?

  2. Sweet! I bet you are so excited :) I've only had experience with laminate flooring, in my parent's house, and it was not good. Maybe it was the cheap kind (and this was 15 years ago), but it seemed so soft and gouged pretty easily. I'd avoid if possible.

Have you seen the ceramic tile that looks like hard wood? Talk about durability :)

    1. I will definitely have to look into the ceramic tile. I originally wasn't even considering laminate, but when I saw it in the show room I honestly thought it was hard wood, I will have to look into the durability issue though. That's what I really liked about the cork, it's super resilient. Thanks for the tip!

  3. Oooooh, it's going to be good! I've never had any of those but my mother has had hard wood in the kitchen forever, and it's fantastic! Any dents and dings just add to the character.

    1. I'm super excited! My original thought was hardwood, and I think that's the way we will end up going. Just need to figure out if that's going to mean refinishing the hardwood everywhere else.
